Sarfraz Nawaz

Sarfraz Nawaz Biography

Sarfaraz Nawaz’s biggest claim to fame was his invention of the reverse swing that left many a batsmen clueless on his day. For years, this reverse swing was suspected as being a direct result out of ball tampering till others realized its validity too. Nazwaz played a lot of his cricket with his mentor, Imran Khan, and bowled his heart out on lifeless Pakistani wickets, to pick up 177 wickets at 32.

However, there was a lot more to Nawaz than only his cricket. It was brash and outspoken nature of his that courted a lot of controversy for the fast bowler. This firebrand bowler was involved in the Andrew Hilditch ‘handled the ball’ incident, and then once bounced the fast bowling tail enders – Joel Garner and Jeff Thomson alike – to earn a lot of wrath. When he got his swing going, he was very lethal, once picking up seven wickets off 33 deliveries versus Australia to end with 9/86.

Post cricket, he became a commentator, and an impetuous one at that. He has been a critic of the way some of the things are run in Pakistani cricket, and it was he who first suggested that there was a match fixing link to Bob Woolmer’s death. Sarfaraz Nawaz also joined politics and was an MPA for three years.

Mohammad Yousuf

Mohammad Yousuf Biography
Mohammad Yousuf is a pillar of Pakistan batting squad setting many records in cricket history. An orthodox middle order batsman, Yousuf is next to none in his style of batting. Although a perfect Test personality, he is equally successful in one-day internationals.

Mohammad Yousuf, formerly known as Yousuf Youhana made a difficult debut against South Africa in 1997/98. He, however, quickly established himself as a stylish world-class batsman alongside Inzamam-ul-Haq. An orthodox stroke player, he is particularly strong in driving through the covers and flicking off his legs. Mohammad’s Yousuf’s style of batting is a mixture of both composure and aggression. He is an ideal batsman to play under pressure thereby winning and saving many Tests under difficult situations. A prolific run-getter, he hit his first ton against Zimbabwe in 1998/99. He has centuries against all Test playing nations. Besides, he had four marathon double centuries against New Zealand, England and Bangladesh. Mohammad Yousuf scored four hundreds in three Tests against the West Indies in 2006, a feat that outshined Vivian Richards's long-standing record of most Test runs in a calendar year. Considering his performance in late 2005, Mohammad Yousuf set a record of most Test hundreds, to be specific nine, in a season. In one-day Internationals, he is also a magnificent player. In 242 one-dayers, he hit 12 centuries and 54 fifties to the total of 8081. His career best is 141 not out. He, however, did not do well in 2007 World Cup leading his exclusion for the ICC inaugural Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa in 2007. Angry at the decision, Mohammad Yousuf signed for the rebel Indian Cricket League only to break the contract later making him available for Pakistan national squad. He was the only Christian player in Pakistan team ever before his conversion to Islam in 2005.

Saeed Anwar

Saeed Anwar Biography

Saeed Anwar (born September 6, 1968 in Karachi, Pakistan) is a former Pakistani opening batsman. A left-hander, Anwar is most notable for scoring 194 runs against India in Chennai in 1997, the previous highest and now the second highest joint individual score in a One Day International. India's Sachin Tendulkar overtook Anwar's record, when he scored 200* against South Africa on February 24, 2010.

An opening batsman capable of annihilating any bowling attack on his day, Anwar was an attacking batsman in one-day matches and once settled in Test matches, scored quickly and all over the field. His success came from good timing and wrist flicks rather than physical power, and Anwar became famous for his trademark flick. He was able to lift a ball that had pitched outside off stump for six over midwicket. Anwar's timing and ability to score quick runs made him a crowd favourite. He was named as a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1997.

Anwar was the first Pakistani batsman to score a century against India on Indian soil in a one-day match. He has the highest Test batting average (59.06) of any Pakistani against Australia, and once scored three consecutive centuries.

Saqlain Mushtaq

Saqlain Mushtaq Biography

Full name: Saqlain Mushtaq
Born: December 29, 1976, Lahore, Punjab
County: Surrey
Other teams: Ireland, Pakistan, Islamabad Cricket Association, Pakistan International Airlines, Sussex
Test Debut: Pakistan v Sri Lanka, Peshawar, September 8-11, 1995
ODI Debut: Pakistan v Sri Lanka, Gujranwala, September 29, 1995
Batting style: Right-hand bat
Bowling style: Off-spin

Sussex showed faith in the former Pakistan off-spinner when they signed him on a two-year contract for the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
He has taken 208 Test and 288 one-day international wickets for Pakistan and will be qualified to play for England next year, having married his British wife nine years ago.
Saqlain was one of the first to develop the doosra delivery and was the fastest bowler to 100 one-day wickets.
During a Test match, at Chennai in 1998-99 he claimed ten wickets in the match that allowed Pakistan to claim a 12-run win against India.
He was not eligible to play county matches until May 2007 when he received his British passport and became EU qualified, playing in four championship matches and taking 18 wickets.
However, he left Sussex at the end of the 2007 season, citing personal reasons, and returned to his old stomping ground of the Brit Oval where he spent several successful seasons forming a spin partnership with Ian Salisbury.
The 2008 season saw him claim 38 championship victims and he ended as the county's leading wicket-taker. He also claimed six wickets in two Twenty20 matches.
He was released ahead of 2009, his links with a rebel league part of the rationale.
